Staying near the conference venue

The Florianópolis Convention Venue sits in the Norte da Ilha region, close to the neighbourhoods of Cachoeira do Bom Jesus and Canasvieiras. This is where you will find the island's largest cluster of mid-range and upper-mid-range hotels, plus a good number of pousadas (guesthouses). If you want to walk or take a five-minute ride to the sessions, book here.

Rates in early December — the start of the Brazilian summer high season — typically run from around R$350 to R$700 per night for a double room, depending on how close you are to the venue and whether breakfast is included. Book by September or early October; December fills up fast with Brazilian holidaymakers, not just conference attendees.

Centro and Lagoa da Conceição: more atmosphere, a longer commute

Florianópolis' city centre (Centro) is about 25–35 km from the venue. A car or rideshare takes 40–60 minutes at peak times, and there is no direct conference shuttle unless the organisers arrange one. Centro has the island's best concentration of business hotels and is convenient if you arrive by long-distance bus at the Terminal Rodoviário Rita Maria. Expect R$250–R$500 for a double.

Lagoa da Conceição is the island's social heart — restaurants, bars, and lagoon views. It sits roughly 30 km from the venue; drive times run 45–70 minutes. Hotels and pousadas here charge R$300–R$600 in early December. Stay in Lagoa if you want evenings out and do not mind a daily commute; skip it if your priority is rolling out of bed and into the first session.

Beaches, budget, and what to skip

If you want beach time after sessions, look at Jurerê Internacional for upscale resorts (R$800–R$1,500 per night) or Canasvieiras for family-friendly pensions and apartments (R$250–R$500). Both are within 15–25 minutes of the venue. Barra da Lagoa and Campeche are further south — 30–45 km, 50–80 minutes in traffic — but offer a quieter, surf-oriented stay at R$300–R$600.

Skip the airport-adjacent hotels in São José unless you have an early flight out; they are 35–45 km from the venue and offer little in the way of dining or atmosphere. Also skip trying to stay in Balneário Camboriú or Itapema — they are 80–100 km away and the daily drive is impractical during high season.
